Adult Literacy Programme

MOUNT CARMELITES  to  redeem  National Dream.

The ability to read, write, and do simple Math is not only critical to progress and prosperity, it is necessary for the very survival of individuals in a modern society. Literacy and numeracy projects allow Mount Carmelites to make a creative contribution to nation building, reducing poverty, and opening up opportunities to those who need them. This resource aims to bring together the best in thinking and effective practice to support teachers, librarians and parents as they help learners develop word and number skills.

For over a decade now, the management of Mount Carmel School has been active in its efforts to reduce illiteracy. Mount Carmel Management demonstrates its commitment to literacy by developing and implementing Literacy projects among the slum dwellers of Kanak Durga colony, New Delhi.

There is an urgent need for proactive thinking to tackle this magnanimous problem. One of the solutions suggested is to focus attention on the literacy of the girl child. Human Resource planners of the country have taken cognizance of the fact that a large women work force had been lying unutilized for many years under the foreign rule. Now as an independent country we can gradually harness this energy for contributing to the wealth of the nation.

In line with the progressive policies of the Government, we, in Mount Carmel, have outlined a strategy to concentrate on Girl child literacy which will act as a catalyst to promote higher education and awaken inner reserves of lying dormant within women.

We, in Mount Carmel, will bring in this change for the welfare of the Society.

The Highlights of the year gone by are as under:
